Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 16 July 2025 – As Malaysia accelerates toward becoming a digital-first nation, cloud computing has emerged as one of the most crucial skills in today’s workforce. From government services to e-commerce platforms, the demand for cloud-literate talent is growing rapidly. Opportunities are now open to more than just IT professionals.

Cloud computing allows businesses to store data, run applications, and deliver services over the internet using infrastructure managed by major tech companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. Instead of relying on physical hardware or software, everything runs in the cloud. This makes work faster, more efficient, and more collaborative.

Driving Malaysia’s Digital Growth

To support its national transformation, Malaysia introduced the MyDIGITAL Blueprint in 2021. The strategy sets out clear targets to:

  • Increase the digital economy’s contribution to 25.5% of GDP by 2025
  • Create 500,000 new jobs in the digital sector
  • Position Malaysia as the ASEAN digital hub for cloud computing, big data, and cybersecurity

As part of this agenda, both government and industry players are investing in digital talent. However, according to a joint survey by the Strategic Change Management Office (SCMO) and SERI, 74.5% of employers reported that they are struggling to hire candidates with the necessary digital skills, especially in cloud-related roles.

This gap highlights a major opportunity for job seekers and professionals in Malaysia to upskill and meet current market demands.

Cloud Skills Are for Everyone

Experts say you don’t need to be a tech expert to learn cloud computing. Entry-level courses are available and designed to be beginner-friendly. These are particularly useful for:

  • Office staff looking to understand digital systems.
  • Fresh graduates wanting to strengthen their resumes.
  • Entrepreneurs exploring cloud-based tools for their busines.
  • Career changers transitioning into the digital sector.
  • IT support staff aiming to expand into cloud administration.

Most foundation courses introduce key topics such as cloud storage, virtual machines, cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, and tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

A Path to In-Demand Careers

Even with basic cloud knowledge, learners can pursue various entry-level roles including:

  • Cloud Support Assistant
  • Junior Cloud Administrator
  • Technical Helpdesk (Cloud Tools)
  • DevOps Trainee
  • Digital Systems Executive
  • Project Support Officer (Tech)

With further experience and training, these roles can evolve into advanced careers such as Cloud Engineer, DevOps Specialist, or Solutions Architect. These roles are highly sought- after across industries including finance, healthcare, education, and logistics.

Be Part of Malaysia’s Cloud Future

Cloud computing is no longer just a trend. It has become the backbone of how organizations operate. As Malaysia continues its journey toward a digitally driven economy, cloud skills are becoming essential, much like basic computer literacy.

By taking the first step into cloud computing, Malaysians, whether students, fresh graduates, or working professionals, can boost their employability and play a key role in building the country’s digital future.

The time to start is now. The future is in the cloud and it is open to everyone.
